General Questions

What is #LoveYYC Community?

#LoveYYC was created for you on behalf of Calgary Economic Development to give you a space to share your insights and ideas to help drive growth and innovation in Calgary’s business community.

You are invited to participate in a number of fun challenges, activities, and discussions to share your thoughts about our city, projects and other exciting community initiatives.

We look forward to your contributions and thank you in advance for your participation!


What's in it for me?

This is your opportunity to share your creative ideas and accomplishments. It’s a chance to provide input, collaborate, see and share tips and tricks, acknowledge others, and submit your ideas for innovation challenges.

Apart from having fun, having a say, and being heard, you’ll have an opportunity to be recognized through achievement badges and prizes. And who knows? Maybe your idea is the next big marketing campaign or event to get Calgary noticed even more!


Why do different people get different questions?

Everyone will have the opportunity to answer a different set of Quick Questions each week. The questions you receive will depend on the topics you told us are most important and interesting to you. We created this community for you, and therefore we want to make sure you get a unique experience that fits you best!


How do I participate?

We will invite you to participate in new activities every couple of weeks. New activities will be displayed on the dashboard, and you will be notified by email. You can manage your notifications under your profile settings.


What if I'm away for a week or more?

All activities in the #LoveYYC community will be accessible for at least two weeks and may be completed at any time during that period. Quick Questions are cumulative, so if you miss a week or more you will still be able to access and complete questions from the missed period. The activities also remain accessible through the Dashboard menu, so anyone who joins later in the program, or who misses a week or more, won’t miss out.


Can I do all the activities at once?

Each week new Quick Questions will be added. You are encouraged to log in on a regular basis to answer questions and contribute to discussions. Conversations in the Community Café and Blog sections will change and develop on a daily basis, so drop in for a chat any time 24/7!


Can I make multiple submissions per activity?

Sometimes you'll have the opportunity to make multiple, or even an unlimited number of submissions in an activity! Other times, you'll only be able to complete the activity once.

Surveys can only be completed once, so think carefully about your responses. Once you complete a survey, the activity tile on your home page will appear greyed out with a check mark to indicate you have participated.

Discussions (like the Community Café for example) allow you to post as many submissions as you'd like! After making your first submission, a green check mark will appear in the "activities" drop-down menu at the top of your screen indicating you have participated. Don't worry though, you can continue to participate in the conversation until the discussion is closed.


Which fields are mandatory?

Participation in #LoveYYC is optional, but if you love storytelling, sharing experiences and/or coming up with innovative ideas, we think this is the place for you! If you choose to participate you are required to complete mandatory fields in order to progress through the questions and activities. Mandatory questions are indicated in the usual way using a red asterisk.


How much time will it take?

You are encouraged to participate as often as you like. Your contributions will help discussions flourish and help #LoveYYC Community evolve and grow. Plus, the more you participate the more likely you are to receive achievement badges and be rewarded for your contributions.

Participation is optional, so if you can only afford 5 minutes per week to complete the Quick Questions, that’s fine! If you enjoy participating and can afford more time, then there are activities, a Café, challenges and blog articles for you to enjoy. Challenges, activities and discussions will be running 24/7, and will be added and updated regularly so you may participate at your convenience.


Do sessions time out?

Yes, please note that your session will time out after 1 hour of inactivity. Therefore, if you walk away from your computer in the middle of submitting in an activity, you will lose your submission if it’s not submitted within the time-out period.


What are Hearts?

Hearts enable you to support challenge ideas that you think are the best. The number of Hearts that you earn impacts the level that you achieve at the end of every 3 months. The number of Hearts you can use to support an idea depends on what level you have achieved. Take a look at our Rewards page for more information.


What does my level mean?

Your level represents the number of Hearts you’ve earned in the community over the past year. Your level can always be viewed by looking at the color of the shield icon, above the number of Hearts you currently have, in the top left-hand corner of your screen. You can also check out how many Hearts you still need to earn to reach the next level by checking out the level page on your profile.


Why did my level change?

Your level may change every year, based on your participation and activity in the community throughout that period. The more you participate, the higher level you will achieve. Check out the Rewards page for more information.


Do I lose my Hearts every time my level changes?

No way! Although your level is based on your participation over the past year, your Hearts balance will never be impacted. Your Hearts balance only ever goes down when you use those Hearts to support challenge ideas. Check out the Rewards page for more details.


What are badges and what do they mean?

Similarly to earning Hearts, badges are awarded for being active and participating regularly in the community. Everyone in the community can see your badges, and they help you stand out in the community. You can check out all badges, and how you can earn them on your personal profile.


Challenge Questions

Will my draft auto-save when I'm working on it?

Unfortunately not - the draft page has a time out of one hour. If your page times out and you haven’t saved your draft, your work will be lost. Please save your ideas regularly while working on them. To do so click on the “Save as Draft” button. You can then go back and work on that draft by clicking on the draft bar at the top of the challenge. Once you’re done with your idea, you should, of course, click “Submit” to post your idea in the community for everyone to see, comment and vote on.


Can I submit more than one idea per challenge?

If you have more than one idea, then go for it! We do, of course, encourage you to carefully work through all the ideas you submit. If you have a ton of ideas that you’re eager to share please remember the rule of thumb, “Quality over Quantity!” This will also improve your chance of winning in the challenge.


Can I edit my idea after I've submitted it?

During the idea submission phase of each challenge, you can edit your idea as many times as you like. Remember to respond to comments on your idea from other members; either by editing your idea or responding in the comments. Once we move into the Support phase, you can no longer edit your idea, but you can continue to respond to comments to move your idea forward and make it even better!


How does the Expert Panel review phase work?

In the Expert Panel review phase, a team of experts review the submitted ideas to determine which ideas fit the challenge criteria best. Depending on the challenge, the ideas selected by the reviewers may be chosen as the winner or be re-posted in the community for everyone to vote on.


Who is on the Expert Panel?

The expert panel will vary from challenge to challenge as different areas of expertise will be needed depending on the purpose and nature of the challenge.


Who is eligible to win a challenge?

All #LoveYYC community members in Canada and U.S. are eligible to win challenge prizes. The only exception is with previous challenge winners: no member is eligible to win two challenges in a row.


How do I earn support in a challenge?

We appreciate the need to get your ideas seen, but please be courteous in doing so. Feel free to use the social sharing buttons to post your projects on social media and recruit friends/family to vote for you there, but be mindful about campaigning inside the community. It gets overwhelming for many members.

What can others see about me?

Members have their own customized profile displayed for #LoveYYC (you only share your username, not your full name). When you register, you can upload a photo for your avatar, this can be any photo which doesn’t identify you and to which you have rights.

You can see and read each other’s comments on public discussions. People can see the submission you make, what you like, and whom you follow. Your survey responses cannot be viewed by participants and will remain private.


Will the information I enter be visible to others?

Each #LoveYYC community member will have a personal profile that other members can see. Your personal profile includes your username, your avatar, your level, Hearts, and your response to the public profile questions.

Comments, discussions and other submissions such as “following” and tags will be visible and accessible to other participants so that they may build upon or provide feedback on your contributions. Please note that surveys are private and your responses will not be shared.

Who is here to help?

There will be experienced moderators in the #LoveYYC community. They are here to answer your questions, and to keep the discussions and challenges flowing. You can contact them by emailing support@loveyyc.chaordix.com.


What if I need help on the weekend?

Please email us at support@loveyyc.chaordix.com, and we will respond to you within 1 business day. There is support available on the weekend, but it is limited.


Can I invite my friend or family member to join the #LoveYYC community?

Absolutely! We'd love to have them participate too!


What if I want to stop participating in the #LoveYYC community?

We wouldn’t like to see you go, but if you wish to be removed from #LoveYYC please email us at support@loveyyc.chaordix.com with the subject line:

"Unsubscribe from #LoveYYC Community"

The support team will close your account and remove your profile information, including email address, avatar, and username. The information you have posted will remain unless you instruct us to remove it.


What if I forget my login information?

If you have forgotten your login information, not to worry, it’s really easy to reset. Just go to the main login page and click "Forgot Password". An email will be sent to you shortly with a link to reset your password.


What if I want to change my login information?

You can change your password at any time. Simply click on your username in the top left hand corner of the page and a drop-down menu will appear. Select “Settings" and then choose the "Change Password" tab to enter your new password.


Is #LoveYYC open to non-Calgary residents?

Yes! The #LoveYYC is open to anyone! Anyone can participate and win prizes.
